When I was in the Navy we would have newbies flown out to us when we were at sea and they wouldn't believe it when I would point out the Milky Way for them. The stars were so thick it would look like a band of bright overcast. Only after several nights would they believe me. Some would ask me how come it wasn't "Galaxy' shaped.
