No more than Pope Gregory XIII got tired of the gregorian calendar and left off at 31 December, 2000 (not 2001, but there are enormous discussions on that subject, so we'll say that really doesn't matter for the point at hand!). The point is, as I said earlier, that it doesn't end on 21 December, 2012. It rolls over, just as our calendar rolls over every 1000 years. It just takes a different amount of time.
