It looks like Mr. Venkatanathan had given himself a 3-day window, saying that the earthquake could happen anytime up to Sept 11. One scientist is asking for
criminal charges to be brought against Mr. Venkatanathan for the panic he caused: the regional government had activiated its disaster-management program, schools closed, and residents of multi-story apartment blocks stayed outdoors.
So, we wait until tomorrow. I wonder what Venkatanathan will do if he is shown to be wrong. I suspect the handwaving will begin, but maybe he'll take the high road and admit that his model is flawed.
