I recall while in the service that most illness was related to fermented soda; it was allowed to get hot, which resulted in the formation of ethyl alchohol. Or it might have been methyl alchohol. Hard to remember, since it's been six years since I heard that story.

I know, it's just an ancedote, not data. But it seems to make more sense than CT sites that spread fear and distrust.
