(I don't think it's statistically perfect), but Miro was the 21st most well known painter, surprisingly to me, before Gauguin. So I think saying he is not a well-known artist is somewhat of an exaggeration. Maybe compared to Van Gogh and Leonardo, sure.

Miro? Never heard of Miro, but have definitely heard of Gauguin, Caravaggio and a number of other artists on that list. Although it seems that Miro has been dropping away on the list lately, down to 28th from what is there now - the August rankings (which seem quite out of date given we're now in December?)
