Hi brandonv. What model of ETX are you using? It sounds like you may be having a problem with focusing due to insufficient "in-travel" of the focusing mechanism. Do you run out of room when you try to focus at a more distant object? If so, perhaps you may be able to achieve focus with a shorter adapter than the Meade basic camera adaptor. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
One other idea I just thought of would be perhaps if you checked on Mike Weasner's website. He has a ton of information for all models of ETX's, and it's broken down by ETX model. His site is at
http://www.weasner.com/etx/menu.html
If you scroll down, and look under the heading, "Feeback", you should see your ETX model listed. I bet someone else has tried the same setup you have, and may have experienced the exact problem you're describing. If so, they probably have a solution or a work-around for it. Mike's site is very interesting and informative, and he also gives a lot of good "tweaks" on how to tune your ETX to make it work the best. He keeps older messages as well in the Archives area.
Good luck!
Paul
