Nine bombs exploded across Bangkok, Thailand in the hours leading up to, and following, the beginning of the New Year -- killing two people and injuring 34.

The first six, near-simultaneous, explosions occurred Sunday night and killed both victims, forcing officials to cancel countdown festivities. Twenty-six people were injured in the blasts.

The fact is folks, as I had mentioned in several threads in a few forums, I was going to be in Bangkok for the changeover to 2007 - a necessary stopover on my return to Tokyo. The bombings occured before and after the New Years changeover.

We were not told in the airport, but security was very VERY tight - armed personnel everywhere. I only found out when my concerned pareants called me when I got back into Tokyo.

Two people that I met on the plane I am now concerned about - a young lady whose email address I have (and yes, I have emailed her).

Even though nothing happened at the airport (at least my part of the airport) I am a little rattled by this.

Many (some from here) will probbaly be disappointed that I was not harmed or killed
