I know there are plenty of 2012 threads here... but (unless it slipped past me) I haven't read anything on what we will actually see on this "doomsday". Will there be anything odd or noticeable in the sky?

Personally I don't think anything devastating will happen. While there's a lot of interesting theories about 2012... we've been through this situation before and we're still here.

I've read articles about how that day will be an "awakening" or "rebirth" for humanity. In the back of my mind I like to think that maybe this will happen. Now I'm not saying that the Flying Spaghetti Monster will come out of the sky and give everyone delicious gumdrops and jellybeans... but more so in a sense that many people will get more into astronomy and strive to venture beyond.

This goes back to why I am curious to know if there is anything visual predicted that would be slightly out of the ordinary in the sky that day/night. I think that if something visual happened and opened humanity's eyes... maybe our quest to understand the Cosmos will take more precedence in our lives.
