Well pretty soon, when the rest of my family joins, we will have enough members to ...

TAKE OVER THE BOARD! BWA HA HA HA HA!!!

(Oops did I say that out loud?)

Toseek, is there anything in the rules that says pets can't join? I have some really intelligent fish that are interested in signing up. One of them even has advanced pectorals and a vascularized, bifurcated swimbladder that allows him to breath air for about 4 to 8 hours, depending on humidity. He can do his own typing, I just have to put one of those membrane thingies over the keyboard 'cause he has that mucus thing going on. The others I will have to do the typing for.

What!? What's everybody looking at me like that for?

Just make sure he reads and understands the rules.

Well, that leaves out my kitten. He can't understand "no going outside without a harness"; I don't intend to try to explaining to him that he must defend his belief that he is allowed outside without a harness.

Hadn't checked on it for a while, but it definitely looks like things are on track to break 10,000 posters by June - as earlier predicted, the rate of about 1000 new members making their first post over about a 6 month period does seems to have picked up just a touch over the last 6 months - which is a good sign.

Looking at the numbers just now, there are 9287 BAUTers that have made at least 1 post (and haven't been chucked off the system for one reason or another).

713 new posters required to break the 10,000 poster mark.

9287/17737 = 52.36% of those who join make at least 1 post to the site.

(If a mod cruises through here and wants to change the title to 9000th poster - it wouldn't be a bad idea to reflect changing circumstances)
Well, just checked in again and as well as going through 1 Million posts here recently, we are now nigh on approaching the 10,000th BAUT Poster I predicted by June, but it looks like it could occur in perhaps the last week of May.

As of today, there are 9887 BAUTers that have contributed at least 1 post to the board, out of 19774 BAUT members which, remarkably, is exactly, exactly 50% of the total community members that have contributed a post.

9887/19774 = 50% of those who join make at least 1 post to the site.

Have to say I am a little amazed by the roundness of that figure, but there you go.

Given the previous ratio, it would appear that there are an accelerating number of members who join to browse through the forum without actually contributing. I have to admit I'd be interested to know similar statistics from other forums, but it looks likely to continue trending downwards, I guess - until there is some big event, something to really cause many of these so-called lurkers out of the woodwork in some capacity.

So, within weeks we're likely to pass 2 more milestones on the board, possibly on the same day

20,000 BAUT Members
10,000 BAUT Posters

I'll be sure to mark the day this actually happens in some capacity.

I haven't looked into the 1,000,000 posts claim - but there is another thread in this section, started by someone else that remarks upon the 1,000,000th post.

The other thread is looking ahead to the 1,000,000th post and wondering what we should do to celebrate it.

You might want to see what it is first. It could be a really lame post. Like this one. Or it could be someone having the meltdown that gets him banned.

Where are those numbers from? How do we know there are 9899 "involved" BAUTers? Just curious.

You can go to "Members List" and advanced search, and specify greater than or equal 1 for active, or not specify for all. The total will be shown.

The BA's little blog games, where you have to post here in order to win a prize, might be helping that ratio.

Well, there we go - checked back in here today and we here at BAUT have breached 20,000 BAUT Forum Members.

Well done everyone! As for those that have actually posted, that currently sits at 9954 - only 46 newbies to go!

As to something else I just thought of, ever wondered what the Crossover Position is? Nah, didn't think so.

Well its the point at which your ranking in terms of how many posts you've made intersects with the number of posts you've actually made.

As of right now, this sits at 429/430.

As in the 429th most prolific poster Ripper
has posted 430 posts,

whilst the equal 430th most prolific posters
nutant gene 71 & Laminal Cockroach have posted 429 posts.

I only mention this because I reckon a good new milestone after 10,000 BAUT Posters are clocked up is to push this Crossover Point out past 500 - which would be a great achievement.

Anyway - I have no idea what led me to work this out. LOL.

And today we're currently at 9997 BAUT Posters, look like 10,000 will be cracked fairly soonish.

Almost there............
