Bad Astronomy is hosted on the same server as BAUT. Phil's latest post on the Big Bang has generated a massive amount of publicity across all the big news sites. He got dugg, slashdotted, farked, and then some. So, the server's just been punished in the last couple of days. We're figuring some short and long term solutions to reduce the impact of this on the server.

Just overloaded. Any one of those sites will bring a webserver to its knees. All three... forget about it.

Phil stripped out all the functionality of his publishing system. So it just posts the HTML page, and that's it. He had to turn commenting off, etc.

I somehow lost the subscription to a thread in Questions and Answers called Could a toroidal planet be stable, which I started myself.
A year passed without new posts being added. When finally new posts were added, I did not notice this because the thread didn't show up in User CP. I noticed it a week later by coincidence (a new post had just been added when I checked New Posts), but now I wonder what else I am missing. |
