Default the new ads suck

big time.

The look of the forum just got a lot less tasteful. Are you guys trying to recoup expenses on this deal, or are you just trying to squeeze a few extra dollars out of the site?

We haven't changed anything signficant in months. Can you give me an example of what you're seeing?

As long as the content remains, I'm unconcerned by the "look".

Actually, Fraser and Phil are doing a "bang-up" job of keeping this BB available...

They are not making a profit.

About three weeks ago, ads started appearing between the first
and second posts on each page (or thread?).

And just as I came into this thread, a banner ad for horoscopes
appeared at the top of the page.

Regarding the ads between 1st and 2nd post, the BA in this thread stated that the ads should only appear if you are not logged in. Are you sure this isn't the issue?

I have noticed an increase in full-color ads; but barely as my mental adblock (IE only at work) does a good job of skipping right past them. (At least I think it's a recent increase in percentage of colored ads...)

That's strange because I haven't noticed any increase in ads on any page or anything, whether it be work or home that I'm logged in at. I wonder what the difference could be. At home I use Avant Browser and it has built in ad-blocking, but at work I use standard old IE, with the same result.

Maybe it is. I'm not sure if I was logged in at work today. But, then again, I was posting so I must have been logged in at some point.

I was occasionally getting a big graphic banner for an astrology website, a kind of ad I have never seen on this site. If this is normal and because I was not logged in, I apologize. It just caught me off-guard this morning.

Install Adblock, block Google ads, and you'll never see them again.

I am definitely getting the banner ads again (for astrology, etc) even when I am logged in.

I can block or ignore them, but the owners should know about this if it is not the desired behavior...

Fraser has said that you can go ahead and block them if you like.

I understand that. But if the ugly astrology ads are displaying and Fraser thinks they shouldn't be, I'm just letting him know in case he wants to follow up on it.

I think it's been said that it is far too difficult to control what ads show up, so they just let them do their thing.

And besides - another thought that has been employed to soothe the ad-haters - Isn't it nice that the woo-woos actually pay to keep BA/BAUT/UT running ? Fine with me... As long as the ads aren't flash-animated beyond recognition, we canbar with them.

I actually get amused by some of the ads.

For instance, just now, they were making a comment about what they were thinking about babbling.
"Waste & Odour Control Sludge, Drains, Waste & Odour Biological..."

Google ads are based on the content of the page. If they set their ads to "Show Text And Image Ads" then occasionally you're gonna get a full color astrology ad. No biggie really. If they wanted, they COULD go in and block the URL from whatever astrology ad that may be there, but really, why bother?

Besides, who are we to stop them from making a bit of profit off the site these guys work so hard to make & update for us?
