Default What´s up

Is it a new section? I hadn´t noticed it until few minutes ago...

(*) For a moment I thought someone was hacking the site, since there was no previous discussion about setting up a new section. Lets skip it...

I noticed it a couple of days (?) ago.

I personally shy away from those sections. I think it's a combination of my own selfish "who's to tell me what articles to read when I can go to the site and read them myself" and the fact that a post has the potential to disappear fast on a worthwhile subject just because there are new stories.
I can see the benefits, but they aren't that strong with me.

EDIT:
Aaargh, I think there's a bug:
I went to mark the forum as read, and it didn't take. I did it about 4 times...nothing. I opened a single thread, it marked as read.

I've set up a blog just for the What's Up - 365 Days of Skywatching site (http://www.astrowhatsup.com). We're also using it as a test to see what's involved in connecting a Wordpress blog into the forum.

I had a similar problem with another thread.
It looks like registration of which threads are read gets confused in at least some cases where the last post is removed.

It happened with the "war of the worlds: lightning..." thread in "Bad Astronomy Stories", where the last poster in the forum overview was billbeebe, but the post had been removed.
Posting a reply, then deleting it again correctly reset the last poster to Melusine from billbeebe, but reset the last post number to 757249 which is invalid.

I expect what happens with the read registration is that showthread.php tracks which was the highest postnumber shown in the thread and saves that, and if the last post's number is higher that this saved number the thread is shown as having new posts.
If the last post's number is a deleted post, then it's never shown and thus never registered as read, causing the thread to get stuck with new posts indefinitely.

Switch the ")" and the "[/url]"
Is the blog supposed to follow the posts?
It has no entries since the 9th.

The entries on the blog are actually post-dated. I did the whole week in advance, so they're only revealed one at a time on the site. Unfortunately, the forum figured out how to post them all. We've got a fix for next week, so they'll be revealed at the same time.
