[Moderator Note: This thread was created by splitting posts from the How good are the best alternatives to the Big Bang theories? thread, in the ATM section. As it raises several questions about to report posts, moderator actions, etc, I feel it has value here, in the About BAUT section.]

Same with me. I am now a spectator.
Nereid has chosen to play by the rules.
Nereid is a moderator.
In the above post by To Seek (a moderator no less) rule 4 has been broken.
To whit i quote;
Quote:
3. Language

No cursing. This goes along with being polite. This website is read by a lot of kids, including young school kids who want to learn about astronomy, space, and space exploration. The Universe is a marvelous place, full of beauty and wonder, and if you despoil it by using bad language you will quickly invoke the ire of the administrators and moderators. Think of the language used on TV during an after-school special and you'll get the idea. Deliberately misspelled bad words, or replacing key letters with different characters or numbers will not be tolerated. Same goes with adult topics -- talk about them somewhere else. If you do need to post something risqué, stick with arcane scientific terminology.

This includes avatars: since you can upload an image to be your avatar, use care in choosing that image. Contact a moderator or administrator if you have any doubts.
So Nereid, as a moderator, I formally ask you to apply the rules and ban "ToSeek" for at least two minutes for breaking the forum rules.

we can all play by the rules.

Okay, I'm banning myself until at least 10 pm this evening. (Of course, I'm going to a baseball game, so it doesn't make a big difference.)

Nothing personal.

Cheers,

Well, if we're going to get serious about it, there's nothing at all wrong with my post. I did not deliberately misspell any bad words, nor did I replace key letters with characters or numbers. All I did was hold down the shift button and press some number keys. How you interpret that is up to you.

What about that second character, the little one between the 8 and the $ ? That will surely raise hackles amongst the 12 year-old set.

lyndonashmore, it seems that you have been posting in BAUT for only a short while (or, more accurately, have written few posts in BAUT, outside the How good are the best alternatives to the Big Bang theories? thread), so you may not be familiar with several differences between the old BABB rules and the BAUT rules.

First, please note that to report a post you click on the Report Post button (red triangle with a black exclamation mark in it); you do not write a post, in the thread, commenting on it.

Second, actions to deal with reported posts are handled by moderators (of which there are more than 10), and mostly via PMs (so BAUT members only rarely get to see what those actions are, except if a BAUT member is banned or suspended).

Third, we already have a thread, here in this section, discussing the role of moderators in threads in which they are also active (content) participants; that thread also includes some posts concerning how to address a situation where a BAUT member feels a moderator's actions are unreasonable.

Before anyone gets too serious, may I suggest everyone rereads lyndonashmore's suggested sanction:

In unrelated news, Google Inc. (GOOG) stock was down 2.54 since yesterday.

There is another thread, here in About BAUT, that's relevant - How do you report Bad Posts?.

And as to Nereid's sense of humour, well, if confusing the punchline with the title is any indication, Nereid's life in comedy would be rather brief and unrewarding.

On the other hand, a life in comedy as the straightman (hmmmmm, straightperson?) may be indicated After all, Bud Abbott, Dean Martin, Dan Rowan, and Dick Smothers all had rather long and rewarding careers.
