Default Planet definition forum?

I donīt mean put more load on the shoulders of the admins, but ToSeek has suggested elsewhere a forum to harbor the various threads about the Planet definition issue. Come to think of it, it could be a good idea to set a temporary forum while the hype lingers. The planet definition threads (though informative and necessary) are clogging the forums, as the games did in the past.

Not even close!

Besides, it's only temporary. There will be a flurry of sour grapes after the 24th, and then it'll be business as usual.

Creating another forum isn't labor-intensive; it would just make for another section in which discussions would need to be monitored. There has understandably been lots of interest in the subject with all the news and developments, but I'm of the opinion that the Astronomy forum can handle it. As noted above, this too shall pass.

Whereas the games shall be with us always.

If the IAU decided to table the debate 'til a later date due to the competing proposals, would you start a planet debate forum?

Not that that would be confusing or anything....

Putting all the Pluto-Threads in a new "Planet-Hunt-Forum" is in my opinion a good plan anyway, but what will happen after thursday? My Idea: After the IAU has really decided something, the moderators lock all the older threads and start with one new thread. Possible additional new threads (after and about the decision) will be merged to the main thread during a week on a 6 hour base.

I think this is a bad idea - most of the threads are not on exactly the same topic and it would just hugely confuse things if they were all merged into one.

On this topic - I wouldn't be averse to their perhaps being a forum devoted to the Solar System in general - although that does kind of co-relate with the Space Exploration forum, in a way. I guess I'd need to think about it a bit further to really justify the case, but does anyone else feel that a forum devoted specifically to our own Solar System would be a good idea? Including broader discussions than just the Exploration aspect?

Space Exploration topics deal with the particulars of human and robotic exploration, including dedicated missions like the MERs, Cassini, etc. Discussions of the solar system - or anything therein - fit perfectly in the Astronomy category as is.
