I find I can only see my most recent 500 posts
in the profile section which is annoying as I
wanted to see if I posted to an old long thread.
And I still cannot see my threads unless logged
in. Is this a design of the recent upgrade?
If so then the words "all posts" needs
modifying and the thread link eliminated for
guests.

I noticed the 500 limit recently too. I'm guessing it might be due to old posts being archived for performance/space restrictions. It would be nice to see all of them though.

I'm guessing it's caused by an attempt at reducing resource use in making the larger searches if the code isn't written to optimize database searches well.
Since I don't know any details on the code that's all I can say, I can't even tell if it's likely to have a performance effect at all.

You can still do a search for older posts...ya just have to know what you want to search for. (does that make sense? ) But yeah...only the last 500 posts appear in the profile section.

I don't believe it is just the profile section, when you are effectively searching for your posts. It seems to be the search function in general. It appears to limit results to the first 500.

For instance, simply search for Mars. You will get 500 results.

(If I need to see further ones, I must slip into the advanced search function and specify earlier date ranges.)

Well now there is still the 500 limit on old
posts but I can see the threads as a guest by
typing in the letters from an image. So as

My bet's on Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Searching Options -> Search Results Posts Per Page and Maximum Search Results to Return

The defaults are:

Search Results Posts Per Page = 25
Maximum Search Results to Return = 500

I think you can get the first 500 posts by choosing ascending order, instead of descending. What would be even nicer, would be a date range. How hard could that be?

Think I can answer my own question here! Something called boardtracker will not be able to tap into profile info and repeat it And there is something called babbleknot that seems to diagram forum cliques. But I will not join it to find out.

My assumption is that the result-set is being held in memory between pages. It may not sound like much, but if enough people are holding a large result-set, they can bring the server to it's knees.

You can if you type your name into the Avanced Search's Search by User Name:...and can remember the appropriate Key Word(s): to search for.

Or you can just choose ascending sort, like I did.
