I had this issue just after installing FF 2.0. I found an extension called flashblocker that basically blocks flash item from displaying unless you want them to. It puts a little circle the alternates between an F looking thing and a play button. Anyway. That fixed mine. Having the ad appear above the drop down menus really should be considered a bug and the appropriate people placed in a small room with only a slightly warped Yoko Ono 8 track for company.

(My last report there was of a Flash ad that didn't cause the problem, but it wasn't evidence that the problem went away, just that some Flash ads don't cause the problem. I've continued to experience it and just work around it. I don't use the menus much, and they aren't Flash much.)

Install the Adblock extension into Firefox. Once you enable that, you'll never see another ad... anywhere. That's what I use.

As far as I can tell, ALL ads just under that menu bar,
including text ads, make the drop-down menus inaccessible to me. Using IE 5.0 My solution is to open the link in anew window. Not that doing so would fix this problem, but is it possible to install IE 5.5 in Windows 98 SE? I tried but failed. -- Jeff, in Minneapolis

That's what I have on my win98SE machine, so it's definitely possible.

Hey, Henrik, that's great to hear! Do you recall how you
installed it? -- Jeff, in Minneapolis

I don't recall, so there can't have been much difficulty, which suggests I simply downloaded it and ran the setup program.
