Cool "Removed" first posts

Given Scaramouche's banning, an interesting artifact arose in the threads he started. Although his initial screeds were removed, the first response remained, with the result that in the index the thread now appears to have been originated by that first responder.

Therefore let me assure everyone that I was not responsible for beginning the "Big Bang-Big Schmang" thread. Even if I did want to argue such a position (which I don't) I certainly would have come up with a cleverer and wittier thread title.

Are you saying that you didn't start a thread by reporting your own post?

At least your's is a bit better than KaiYeves, unless if it is a conspiracy that Kai doesn't like coke.

I strongly disagree with the removal of scaramouche's posts - even the somewhat trollish Big Bang posts that I had seen. It is fine to delete obscenities and spam, but one can lock a thread and suspend or ban a user and put a stop to further trolling. The posts from scaramouche that I saw may have been annoying, and he may have made further ones that crossed the line, but to remove all his posts smacks of a particularly noxious kind of revisionism. For that matter, I also object to the excision of roscoe's 9/11 content, unless it was copyrighted or for other technical reasons. He received a warning, and it's up to him to stay on topic. If we're going to censor his off-topic CT content, why not the discussions on JFK CTs in the same thread?

I know it's a pain it is to moderate these forums, and I appreciate the hard work and good intention of the mods, but these particular actions surprise and alarm me - to the point where I'm considering refraining from further participation on BAUT.

I would wish they'd leave the article, title, position, time, existence, but remove the content. I recently saw extensive examples of this method when I was reviewing a new-to-me poster's old history: one of many "Banned poster content deleted" articles.

Maybe it's more expedient to do a Scaramouche-type removal operation, though, and mods are busy enough. The example was from a calmer time when the BA could do it all.

I understand your position on this. Perhaps I responded dogmatically, treating all provocation by a troll as unhelpful to the greater forum. His posts are available to us, but would be difficult to replace, as the source-thread information is now lost.

It's embarasing what happened in the CT forum. It looks like I started a thread that got locked.

I was able to restore the two original posts, so Eta C and KaiYeves are out-of-the-woods. Of course, now my remarks about closing those threads don't make much sense.

But, that's never stopped me from posting before.

Remarking? or making sense?
