Default Search (mal)function ???

Sometimes I use the search function of BAUT and type in my name "rtomes" and it gives me this http://www.bautforum.com/search.php?searchid=1011788
which includes many threads that I have posted to, and nicely puts the most recent ones at the top. However it does not include this thread in which I have made a number of posts recently Jupiter influencing sunspots

I wonder why that is?

Interestingly it does not list this thread either.

It does now (or would if you redo the search), because I am introducing the text rtomes in the actual content of a message.

The simple search function only applies to titles and contents, not the associated text, like participants' names (unless those names have also appeared as text content). If you want posts you have authored, you need to search on username rtomes. If you want posts in which you are mentioned, you need to search key word rtomes.

By the way, links to search results, like that, only are meaningful for a short while and they are static in time as to when they were performed -- so your use of rtomes (I didn't notice) didn't affect those static search results achieved earlier. (Beware and check the statistics in the upper right corner, like "generated 44 minute(s) ago". When re-searching on a previously searched term, you can get stale results that don't reflect recent changes.)

They quickly time out and become meaningless -- like now.

Thanks for the explanation 69.

When I go to advanced search and put in user rtomes, makes this link which I think works http://www.bautforum.com/search.php?searchid=1011826
Hard to tell now that you made the other one show up anyway. :-)
Anyway I will use that one in future, thanks.

But, now, some 8 hours later, it links to oblivion:

(Perhaps frequent recalls of search results helps them to stay alive. I expect the results are cached somewhere for efficiency's sake, and if they are re-accessed, maybe a timer associated with them gets reset. They are indeed cached within vBulletin, says a topic in the vBulletin forum. Makes sense when you see that "generated n minutes ago" on the results.)

Well, anyway, I'm glad I led rtomes to the advanced search so rtomes can search for User Name rtomes and find more rtomes. Happy searching!

Yes, I discovered this for myself when I came on today and clicked my bookmarked link. OK, I just have to do a few extra mouse clicks every day. Thanks for your assistance in understanding this.

01101001 is like the Vbulletin expert.
If he ever got laid off work, I'm sure Vbulletin would be sending him offers.
