Default Hey! Wasn't the world supposed to end today?

Or am I wrong? I thought someone on one of those dooms day message boards was saying that some kind of huge earth changing or world-ending thing was supposed to happen today.

Oh that reminds me! I need to call my bookie... ops:

Right day, wrong year:

http://www.survivingtheapocalypse.co...es/2000/april/

March 10th, 1982: One of the most famous planetary alignments in recent history was promoted by astrophysicist John Gribbin in his notorious book "The Jupiter Effect". According to Gribbin, "one of the most terrible disasters in the history of mankind may hit the United States killing untold millions and reducing the American West Coast to rubble."

That's the only doomsday prediction for march 10th that I could find. Isn't it amazing how many such predictions have been made over the years?

On the other hand, those challenged folks over on, let's see, which conspiracy site was it? There are so many...

Anyway, here's the DESTRUCTION ON MARCH 10, 2004 discussion thread, with links to places you'd rather not go.

You can pretty much be assured that EVERY day is the day the world is supposed to end according to some doomsayer.

That's a great idea, snabald. That way we could control all those neutrons out there. Since neutons have no charge, and HB/woowoo websites have no charge, and the concept (of course) would have no charge, the moderated neutron flow would allow for some fission demonstrations beyond the knowledge of mortal men!

For the audio, first band up: HEAVY WATER!!!

Oh, sure. The world's supposed to end today. Figures.

I finally got GTAIII yesterday (what a steal! Only $15.00!) and now you tell me I can't finish it? And I can't enjoy my new Gerber multitool that I just got? What about that Best Buy gift card I got yesterday? I DEMAND THAT THE WORLD STAYS THE WAY IT IS! Grr...

Yep. We're still here. Must've worked.

If the world is supposed to end on March 10th, does that mean the places where its already March 11th are safe? Glad I'm on the East coast! We're 3 hours closer to safety than you poor people out west.

But maybe I'll stay up until midnight in case we don't make it. Wouldn't want to waste my last few hours sleeping.

Wow, what a safety margin! Lucky you!

But, think about it, how would you like to be a kid growing up in one of these fundamentalist/millennialist families?

"Don't forget to do your homework, so you can get good grades, and maybe get into a really good college, which would guarantee success in the business world, which will probably ensure that you have a trophy wife and two to three beautiful children, and as you go through your career, you will amass sums of money, investments, and capital that will ensure that when you retire you..."

"Wait! Never mind! The world is going to end tomorrow!"

I don't really care if the world ends today or tomorrow. Just as long as it ends by April 15, so I don't have to do my taxes.

Did mine already, so I want my refund at least a week before the world ends, so I can have some fun before everything ends.

I remember that one, was in college at the time, my astrophysics prof actually mentioned it (he did chuckle quite a bit about it of course) and said that the alignment that supposedly was going to cause the "Jupiter Effect" was pretty cool cause you could see the all the inner planets (and Jupiter) in the sky forming a straight line....

Nobody was supposed to say anything about the world ending. Now we're going to have to kill everybody who heard/read that. What a mess... you can't find good help these days....

I suppose the events of Madrid will be, and in fact have already been, twisted to suit some dark new age cataclsysm.

Yeah, it did.

But it was only temporary.

Every time some would-be prophet makes one of these predictions, that's the explanation: The world was destroyed, see -- but it just didn't last.
