I hope this phrase doesn't get taken out of context for the woowoo's.

It's odd how one reads statements like this with the idea of how they will be abused by woo-woos; I thought the same thing when I read Michael Collins's book, "Flying to the Moon," where he said, "In Houston we even had an imitation lunar surface...when you flew over this field in your helicoptor it looked just like the photographs of the moon." Ack!

It is the price of honesty.

BTW, welcome Stardate.

There are several comments by astronauts on the real flights regarding sims., e.g. Pete Conrad after lightning hit the launch vehicle, dropping out nearly every breaker in the command module: "Hey, that's one of the better SIM's, believe me."

Usually, they preferred the real flight to sims, as in sims there were always the bad guys (simsups - simulation supervisors) who tried to corner or kill them with problems. Compared with sims, actual flights were most times much less eventful. And when bad things happened, they haven't thought up before by the simsups, like the Apollo 12 lighting strike or the Apollo 13 oxygen tank.

of course there is one way in which the Apollo mission could actually be a hoax.

And that is if we are really all living in a Matrix type virtual reality(as some have claimed) in which case it could be argued that the whole of the last 15 billion years has been a hoax. #-o

Funny, especially since I was thinking of a similar idea this morning.

What if another civilization found the flyby craft; Analyzed it; then determined that it had fired a projectile? Wouldn't it be determined that we are testing space weapons and that we are a threat?

I think that the projectile was just detatched from the flyby craft rather than fired from it.

Maybe so, but then again we could ask them what they were doing in our solar system in the first place.

You would think that if another civilization was observing the Deep Impact probe, that they would have the ability to monitor our transmissions and other space craft? This shouldn't come as some supprise.

I find it hard to imagine that another race of beings capable of interstellar travel would be freaked out by our experiments. If anything the aliens would probably be using this as a historical science project, to compare their early space science to ours.

How much "noise" would they be getting trying to monitor our transmissions. What if they happen to pick various Sci-fi stuff to monitor
instead? I'm sure with no frame of reference there might be a lot of mis-interpretation especially with a fiction/non-fiction mix.

On, the other hand, after the analysys, they might just say "these idiot Earthlings can't even get thier weapons out of thier solar system"

By the way, thanks for the interesting discussion on a totally ridiculous idea.
