http://deepimpact.umd.edu/collab_pub/images/ lists the whole directory with several images.

The page is http://deepimpact.umd.edu/collab_pub/imagep.shtml but it looks somewhat odd with Firefox.

With regards to your picture, the captions are as:

Quote:
Images of comet Tempel 1 showing a comparison of the pre- and post-impact coma structure. Images were taken at the 4-meter telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory.
[...]
The third picture was taken 46 hours after impact. All pictures have been enhanced to improve the contrast of the dust features.

I'm not sure what needs to be explained in the picture.

Oh, the bright light at the top of the photo? That's a superlaser (death star weapon) that the Tempelians are charging up in preparation to destroy the earth.

Ruler: Ah yes, Plan Nein, the destruction of Earth by superlaser. Eros, Tanna, do not forget, the superlaser is to be used only on those areas that have been analyzed in our imaging equipment. Therefore, the destruction will be limited to bitmaps.

Eros: Yes Excellency.

Announcer: We will soon be giving you all the evidence, based only on the secret testimonies of the miserable souls who survived this terrifying ordeal.

You're seeing the ejecta cloud from Tempel 1. This was almost 2 days after the impact event.

Is the black dot within the coma an artifact of processing, to block out the light from the nucleus?

Hiding? Like in http://deepimpact.umd.edu/gallery/index.html or http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/de...ain/index.html

Do you think when NASA isn't delivering you a parcel with a stack of prints every two hours, NASA hides something?

Other photos? The impact was early on July 4th (my time) and the photos seem to be taken by Kitt Peak every 23 hours or so (based on the web page kucharek provided). Given that interval, three photos by the 6th of July seems about right.

Where have you heard that NASA is hiding pictures? Do you mean from the spacecraft or from the ground? Can you think of any reasonable explanation for why they would such a thing? I've seen dozens of images of this comet, from NASA and non-NASA sources. They're not doing a very good job of hiding them, if that's what they wanted to do.

Read the caption on that picture. It was taken 67 seconds after impact.

There probably are, but are not well publicized because of they are not as interesting. The flyby craft is now quite far from the comet (Millions of miles by now)
