I was just browsing around when I decided to visit Nancy Leder's website, and I found something that picked my curiosity. And no, it wasn't about PX, or the Zetans.

I am refering to the award/icon that is displayed on the right side of the Zetatalk homepage. Top 5% Website point???

What is this award/icon really about?

(I originally tried to put a picture of the icon, but couldn't, so removed the text url)

That award has been around for a long time. It is awarded to those sites that supposedly rank in the top 5% of website visits. It has spawned many parodies. I googled on bottom 95, and I came up with more than I could count (OK, google counted them, but I didn't bother looking at all of them...)

those awards are stupid, you can get them from anywhere and they don't mean anything. my site could get 1 hit per year and still have that image. all it takes is a little copy, ftping and img src'ing.

funny thing is that most of the planet x sites are of poor quality and were obviously made using some frontpage-like software - and they put all sorts of these "awards" hoping to impress no one.

I did notice that her site did not look as clean visually as it should have.

One other thing bothered me was the huge number of hyperlinks on virtually every text page. There must have been 10-20 links per paragraph. Compare that with the average of 1-2 for BA.com.
