Yeah, I realize that. There isn't a religion area here though (and for good reason; the issue is just too contentious!), but I thought someone might be able to tell what it really was.

And it certainly is an example of a ridiculous misuse of astronomical data.

It doesn't look like the corona to me. It looks like a composite of computer art.

The central image looks like it could be a doctored picture of Eta Carina, but probably not. I could believe the outer part was the Solar Corona in some weird color map. Unless the whole thing is just a PhotoShop painting. Either way it's got nothing to do with a black hole.

You could have a lot of fun with the premise, though. Let's see: as your soul fell into the hole, your torment in being ripped apart by tidal forces would appear to last forever. Of course, from your perspective, you would be ripped apart and crushed down to a sigularity almost instantaneously, so I don't think it really fits the bill. Of course, the vast number of black holes does mean we could each have our own private hell. But if the soul is a boson, we could all be piled on top of each other.

Okay, I'm just being silly.

I dont even think it's a SOHO image. I think it's purely fictional art. This would be very simple to do with about 3 composite photos on Photoshop (the explosion from overhead for the center image - easy to find in stock images -, a colorshifted splash of water for the red, another splash for the blue) Then, inject some propaganda espousing your own money-mongering...er...evangelist theory, and there you have it.
