Hello Captain Swoop,
Hello Gilli,
The occurrence of the auroras is associated with the precipitation of the charged particles (almost from magnetospheric origin rather than from the solar wind) on the ionosphere, and with the ionospheric electric currents. Regarding the precipitation of the charged particles on the ionosphere, usually, it is by the day greater than by the night. Regarding the ionospheric electric currents, they are in the daytime side of the ionosphere greatly more intense than in the nightside ionosphere. Moreover, the solar x-rays and solar UV are almost always available during the day. These solar invisible spectra are the main factor in driving the ionization of the ionosphere that is needed to enhance the electic currents, and to intensify the ionic contents of the ionosphere. These last two agents are necessary for auroral occurrence.

Nereid, you're an optimist! However, I am interested in how Attiyah will reconcile the various ideas she's put forth so far. Attiyah's original idea proposed that aurorae produces the majority of visible light that is then Rayleigh scattered by the atmosphere to produce the blue coloring of the sky. In a different post, Attiyah supposes that ozone is the reason for the sky's blue hue, citing the blue color of the gas. And then there's the "midnight sun" concept, which must figure in somewhere. Honestly, it's a mystery story worthy of Dan Brown.

Attiyah is male. He does not consider that Rayleigh scattering is the cause of the blue sky.

but why not? u can't just say it isn't when all the evidence says it is!! Well, u can say it but without evidence why should we care?

My apologies, Attiyah. That was a typo that I did not catch.
Regarding Rayleigh scattering: in previous posts you did not exclude it entirely. Are you doing so now?

Yes you are right that I did not exclude Rayleigh scattering entirely. I consider that the main contribution to sky blue coler comes from the blue color of ozone.

And you haven't explained why our physics based models of atmospheric radiative transfer fail, even though thery don't assume that the dominant source of "blue" is ozone.

Upon his return, Attiyah Zahdeh will answer all pertinent, direct questions, about the ATM ideas he has presented in this thread.

Or, he may ask that the thread be closed, to allow more time for preparation of answers, or because he chooses to abandon defence of the ATM ideas.
