Even through this may have nothing to with astronomy, this is something that has bugged me for some time.

i just watched this episode of star trek and realised one strange thing, why is it that when a ship gets hit, (even throught its shields are still up) why dose all the consoles explode? its like a computer store getting hit by some wind then all the computers inside just explode.
also, why dose the ship take damage even through its sheild are still up?

This subject more properly belongs in the forum

Bad TV! Bad Movies! No doughnut!

Which is where I'll make some ST comments.
