As I understand it, no. For example, if an electron and a positron come together, they are transformed into a pair of identical .511MeV photons that fly off in opposite directions at the speed of light.

Pasqual Jordan had an energy theory that is still quite popular with a few recent additions. According to this theory, the universe began as a cosmic fluctuation arising from the zero point energy. Half of the fluctuation was positive energy and half was negative energy. Positive energy is what we know as ordinary matter and energy. Matter is just a more concentrated form of energy but the two are made of the same positive stuff. Negative energy is what we call gravity. Gravity is considered to be negative energy because it takes energy to remove matter from a gravitational field. Gravity is thought to be the "hole" or energy debit that was left in the ZPE after the removal of "positive" energy. The universe in this view is an equal combination of positive energy (matter/energy) and negative energy (gravity) so the universe has a net energy of zero and it took no energy to form the universe.

In that sort of mood myself strangely enough now that you mention it. Have you ever been to a party and when a certain person walks in the whole tone of the place changes. That's negative energy isn't it?

tommac, I've been thinking somewhat along the same lines that everything consisting of matter is energy in motion and so the rest of the universe that surrounds mass may be anti-energy at rest or something to that effect. My personal thinking is that its a sea of negative potential or electrons? I posted an ATM thread on wave/particle duality discussing the hypothesis.
For example a photon beam or beam of light would travel through this sea of negative potential (everything thats not matter) carrying a positive electrical charge and EM field intertwined. In the example below posted by Hornblower the potentials would be merely releasing their energy as radiation the same way a laser boots photons from an atoms orbital? Quote:

Coliver, you have a history of doing the same thing Tommac is doing.
I recall you posting threads about DNA being a cosmic antenna too. I even jumped in and defended your misconceptions once (Remember?) Only to learn I had misconceptions too (Remember?) and once I learned my misconceptions, could no longer defend your position. Your post here makes about as much sense as your DNA are Antennas for receiving divine information speculations. It comes from not understanding the physics and principles of how things actually work. Usually it also comes from noting seeming similarities. For example: Someone sees water swirl a drain. They then see a picture of a spiral galaxy. They then determine that a spiral galaxy must be stars swirling a drain and that drain must be a Black Hole that is hoovering up the galaxy. ERRRR WRONG! If that person understood basic celestial mechanics, they would know that a spiral galaxy is nothing like water swirling a drain. Heck, if they just look at barred galaxies, bar-spiral galaxies, and elliptical galaxies they might realize- but usually they don't. Once they get the misconception- they like it. They don't want to give it up. |

I agree with you neverfly. That is why I would like you to think differently about the BB.

LOL
Maybe it makes little sense because you (admittedly) don't yet understand it. Relax and give it time. Someone else put it quite well- It doesn't make sense. Nor does Quantum Mechanics. "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, then you obviously don't understand it." |
