Is my signiture offensive? :-?

Yes. Several whale species are endangered, and to be frank, there isn't really any reason to do anything to them.
As for "pave the rainforests"... Tropical rainforests are scientifically interesting places, you know, with a lot of species. Some of the plant species there could yield medicinally useful substances, e.g. new antibiotics. Also, I just happen to like insects...
Seriously, though, I see absolutely no reason at all to trash this planet when we don't have to. I much prefer the place I live in to be a nice place, and I don't consider office parks to be aesthetically pleasing...

Not to me .. but I don't take it seriously.

I used to live in BC; where Premier (Canadian version of governor) W.A.C. Bennet ran a campaign with the slogan "The smell of pollution is the smell of money."
He remained in power for more terms.

Not at all, though I'm a very hard person to offend.

Why can't we live in peace with the whales?
But what if the whales had nukes?

If the whales had nukes, they might be out to get us... ;)
Really, though, evolution does encourage aggressive behavior.

No way to tell. If it is sarcastic, then I have no problem with it. If it is serious, then you have a serious problem.

I think it is sarcastic. Even so, I see where it is likely that we may nuke the whales and pave the rainforests. If we develop Orion, NSW, or other nuclear rockets for spacelift capability then we wil probably do it over the oceans and then we will run the risk of nuking the whales. I would not consider it a necessity, but a probability. With the expansion of humanity and the extension of technology, we will inevitably make roads in rainforests. It's already happening. But that does not mean we have to pave all of the rainforest. I would think that the PCH and other North-South arteries through the pacific northwest including California are necessary to survival of many people and at least necessary to maintain the current standard of living in those populations served by them. Construction required destruction. If we wish our race to survive into the distant future then we will need to get off the planet. We need to get to that paradigm before we use up our resources. If we preserve nature to the detriment of our wanderlust then we condem all on this planet to eventual extinction.

Just to be clear, I'm not really thrilled with replacing "key" letters in bad words, either.

It's highly offensive. Hang your head in shame.

Doesn't offend me at all. David Lee Roth proclaimed "nuke the whales" in an MTV interview some 20 years ago. The phrase has been around a while. ;)

Just two cents from a "sigless" arrow-slinger:
Even though xbck1's sig don't bug me personally, the fact that he found it potentially controversial enough to start a poll over it, coupled with the fact that 6 people do find it offensive is reason enough to get rid of it. If a sig has the potential to offend one person, it shouldn't be used.

Even if it's meant to be ironic, it's still pretty base for any sense of humour really. Too low-brow for me. I'm not that offended, just a shake of the head really.

Frankly i don't care
It shoundn't be offensive its just a joke and even if it was serious nuke those whales and pave those bloody rainforests is pretty much the motto of capitalism anyway
If a VERY small minority of people (under something like 10%) are offenended then too bad you just have to live with it really

Oops. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that, yes, it is meant to be sarcastic. Been away from the computer for most of the last couple of days.
Wow, milli360, I'm, uh... Sorry? Um, I, um...

Wait, you were being sarcastic? Well that does it for me. I am extremely offended by your unconscionable unwillingness to nuke whales! I demand that you retract your last statement and make a sizeable contribution to the CAAF (Cetacean Atomic Annihilation Foundation). :x

Yippy, skippy, drugs! :D
I took it as joke xbck1, so its ok by me, and I'm a tree-hugger from way back.
You could go with the old Dilbert, somewhat less offensive "Shave the Whales". Or "Save the Whales, Collect the Entire Set".

i think the Norwegians and the Japanese would object to the sig as they feel it's much more beneficial to harpoon whales for 'scientific' (read: culinary) research. nuking them would make their fishermen jobless... :-?
and pave the rainforests? no way! where would we plant the soybeans or the banana- and palm trees? :-?

As humor, it's rather sophomoric. It simply leads me to believe that you're in your teens and are trying to be "shocking".
I'm more offended by your poor spelling.

Well, I have banana and palm trees in my backyard, so that shouldn't be a problem. I don't have soybeans however....

Soybeans are not from the rainforest, though they can be (and are) cultivated in the tropics, with adaptations. Also, the rainforest is not the site of predilection for palm trees.

Ooooh, this sig is not offensive, it is pure nostalgia for me.
When in senior high, I used to wear buttons and political statements against the tree huggers you could find then a dime a dozen, because I saw them as counterproductive saboteurs.
I had nightmares where "Greens" special intervention forces, armed with banana guns and plum slingshots were confiscating every technological item I had, replacing it with potted sunflowers.
"I like concrete", "more nuclear power plants" and "I love technocracy" were just a few of the homemade statements I wore on my silver NASA jacket - years later I suddenly was "hip" - when the techno music wave swept all over Europe what in 1981 was ridiculed became something "way cool" in 1991"...
I mellowed out a little since then, but statements like yours still get me a-rock-and-rolling.
But maybe I got your intentions all wrong :-?
