Latest Zetatalk would have it that PX is now causing small planes to fall from the sky. Looks like those things just can't stay up when their GPS receivers or radar fails, according to Nancy. Didn't know that.
What will it be next? I cut my finger chopping veg yesterday, reckon I'll just blame it on PX...

oy veh.
What would occur if a small plane were informed, by GPS, that their location was not amidst hills, but in the open? Flying blind, the pilot would assume his altitude safe.
luckily, modern aircraft are equipped with a backup system, known as windows

Well there's the whole problem right there. The big planes don't crash because they're running Linux.
had to do that one.]

Nancy and... Um, and... Oh, maybe Grant, there must be someone else, let me think. Nope. That's it. But it's still a great comedy turn.

yes, I know... but I wasn't talking about this kind of windows:

Eek. Krill, hope that Nancy doesn't get a hold of that one. Human error and a glitch in the servers? Yeah, that's what they say...

Ah, the Martin and Lewis of the 2000s. Or maybe Rowan and Martin... :D

yeah, I can see it now:
"Planet X : Windows Server Crashes"
the phrase "running out of material" springs to mind, and not for the first time. Then again, I can't wait to see what she comes up with after the Lunar eclipse tomorrow. Weather forecast looks promising so far - I'll be posting pictures if it stays clear...

How about, "Moon eaten by PX. A distraught Earth contemplates suicide"? :D

That sounds like a great idea.
"Bob. You're fired."
"Darn you, Planet X!" ::shaking fists::
I might have to use this more. It's a very handy scapegoat. :P

Since I plan to take digital and film photos of the eclipse tomorrow (weather forecast is for "partly-cloudy": around here that usually means 1 to 2 inches), I ordered some film. Haven't done that in a while. Since I use a developer that significantly increases film speed while maintaining grain structure, I ordered some Kodak Plus-X with the idea of getting some B&W umbra detail. Apparently this film is specifically designed for Planet X photography:

I'd be interested in hearing details of your development method...
by the way, what is your location?

So Kodak is in on it too. That must be the film you use to photograph kites and lense flares

I wonder what Nancy would say about the lunar eclipse. what about it's actually PX eclipsing the moon?

Seriously who believes this stuff?
Honestly, I am extremely open minded to the point of being near gullible, that in addition to being somewhat ignorant regarding astronomy, led to a small sense of anxiousness when I first read a few "theories" regarding PX.
Although I may be kinda gullible I know enough to be aware that people who spit out fear-mongering nonsense such as PX, 10th planet or whatever you wanna call it prey on the astronomically iliterate like me.
This brings me to the reason I stumbled onto this site; to fill the blanks and replace the nonsense with sanity.

welcome to the Board DasWunderKid... i think you'll find that there's a lot of very healthy discussion about a number of 'theories' concerning things like Planet X, lunar conspiracies etc...
i also think you'll find that a lot of these 'theories' are totally groundless.
enjoy!

I guess the Zetas are so advanced thay don't know about either windows or barometric altimeters!
I doubt if either large or small aircraft de[end upon their GPS for primary altitude info.

Maksutov,
I'd be interested in hearing details of your development method...
It's really simple and involves no darkroom magic. I just use a two-bath developer called Diafine. It's not temperature dependent, in fact it works over a wide range of temperatures (70 to 85 F) and for time, it just requires a minimum of three minutes in each bath. Stop bath is not recommended, and regular fixer is used.
If stored in a dark, cool location, it has a very long shelf life, in the order of years.
Here's the effect it has on the speeds of some B&W films:

This is not a new product; I've been using it for over 40 years.
by the way, what is your location?
Northern Mississlippi, about 30 minutes from the TN line.

You've come to a great place to get some solid info into those blanks, but I think you'll find yourself disappointed if you're looking for sanity here ;)
Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the board! Yes, that's the reason we keep posting on this topic - and on other supposed catastrophes that the fearmongers want to sell to people. It's not as if there isn't enough to worry about already in the world. While Nancy Lieder's Planet X shtick is more or less played out, and is now little more than low comedy, there's always a new nutty theory ready in the wings to be taken apart.
There's nowt wrong with being open-minded, but to cite a common saying, you don't want to be so open-minded that your brain falls out. :)
I'm sure you can learn a lot from this board. I have done - I know a bit about astronomy, but my physics is kinda shoddy, and some of the other people here really know their stuff in that respect.

thanks! I might try some of this sometime. Right now I'm sticking exclusively to digital, but traditional emulsions do have a certain appeal.
hoping for clear skies tomorrow...

I doubt if either large or small aircraft depend upon their GPS for primary altitude info.
Not as such really, the primary is the Baro Altimeter, but GPS is used as part of the Blended Navigation Solution which does include altitude. So this is not really a yes/no proposition in the larger aircraft.
Small guys do not. Baro Altimter is king.
I also guess that Nancy has never read the NTSB information on such things, in September 2004 alone, in the US there were 152 "accidents" and 170 in Sept 2003. So the count went down. How then is this a "Sign of our times?"
