View Full Version : HOLY COW!!! I'm 50!!!

Yep, I'm 50 years old...It seems like only yesterday I was a kid. (Well I'm still a kid, just a little wiser, a little grayer, and a little rounder. :))
I figured that reaching the milestone of turning 50 deserved a BABBling thread. If anyone out there wants to turn this thread into "lets make old jokes about R.A.F.", I'm fine with that...

Ya young whippersnapper!! Now, wait until you're a really old goat like me.
(I've got you beat by a grand total of 1 yr, 7 months)
Congrats...may the next 50 be even better! =D>

And I got 3 months on Hutch.
At 50, you will now age 2% per year as opposed to the much higher rate in the past. At 100, you're only 1% per year. Eventually, you will hardly age at all. :)
However, some things change. Some good things..
For instance, I am now a BA, too.....

Gee, R.A.F. Don't panic. It's not the end of the world. Just the end of your having any fun in it. Seriously, happy birthday. I survived hitting 50 about 3 years ago and haven't noticed any noticeable decrease in the quality of my life. Chin up.

That's OK...as of late, I've gotten used to it. Just the other day, my Dad called me an "old fart"! Or course to understand his "humor", I must tell you that one of his favorite expressions is "I hate old people".
Ya young whippersnapper!!
 Yeah, I know that there are "older folks than I" posting here...I expect to be hearing from them soon...:)
Eventually, you will hardly age at all. :)
Isn't that the time to start worrying...when you stop aging? Isn't that usually called death?
....and thanks for the all the "congrats"...I do appreciate them!

I posted my previous post before I saw this...

Actually, I'm probably in the best "shape" of my life. And as far as quality of life, I really have zero complaints...I'm having a great time, and I'm happy in my "skin". I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought it was all "down hill" from here. :)
I did have a bit of a scare recently though. I was having some "tightness" in my chest, and my doctor had me take one of those "stress tests". Ya know, "walking on the treadmill" and recording my hearts' responses to it. Well, according to the test, everything's fine with my heart. I thought it was just indigestion, but I'm glad I took the "test"...better "safe than sorry". :)

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Second, 50's no big deal, just don't think about it too much! I'm 50 plus a few and still feel fine. Actually, it can be liberating... I don't feel the need to impress/please/follow anything save my own opinion...in some ways it's good to be "old". 8)

I shouldn't be teasing, I'm just under 2 years away from 30 and I feel a midlife crisis coming on.

Well im glad your body gets into better shape as you get older cause the way im going im going to be lucky if i hit 20 (im 16). I have achs, pains, stiff joints, memory loss, forgetfulness, bad back/neck/knee's/elbows, weight problem, soriasis which causes a hell of a lot of things... the list goes on
But saying that i can't catch the flu, i have a rest pulse between 52 and 62 bpm, i have a BP of 124/57 (last time i checked) and i have good peak flow etc. But a rest pulse of 52 means i have bradycardia unless im athletic and train several hours a day, i play guitar if that counts :D
I probably make all you old dudes look healthy. Hopefully i started at the downwards side and its going to keep getting better for me. Come on living for ever!

I passed that point seven years ago. Just remember that next year you will be OVER 50.
Senior discounts don't really kick in until 55. I now get 10% off at Ponderosa.
And other things start to change. At 50 the AARP starts filling the mailbox. I will never be lonely again, they are always there. And you walk into the doctor's office, and he smiles, puts on the rubber glove, and he says, "Now, let's check the old prostate."

Turning 50 is no big deal. It feels exactly the same as 45, or even 40, or even 30. Sometimes even 20!
The only odd thing that happens is about three or four days after your 50th birthday, you're walking around minding your own business, when suddenly the clouds part and a giant voice booms down from above:
"Welcome to Part Two!"
:o

Well, It really wasn't my intention to start this thread, and then abandon it. But after my last post yesterday, things became a little hectic. I did end up having a great birthday...better than I expected.
THANK YOU ALL so very much! It's easy to see why this is the best BB on the web...it's because of the folks who post here. It's a privilege to be counted as a member of this board. A place where people are just plain nice. (Is that "sappy" or what? :))
