Wow poor girl.

I can't help but imagine what it would be like not to feel pain. Seems to me it would be more akin to feeling numb all over.

She can feel things just not pain.

Ashlyn can feel the texture of nickels and dimes she sorts into piles on her bedroom floor, the heft of the pink backpack she totes to school and the embrace of a hug. She feels hunger cravings for her favorite after-school snack, pickles and strawberry milk.

That's because the genetic mutation that causes CIPA only disrupts the development of the small nerve fibers that carry sensations of pain, heat and cold to the brain.

You got to feel sorry for the poor kid (and anyone else in a similar situation) who are physically incabable of feeling pain. Some of the things that they said that the girl had done to herself, because she could not feel pain, were horrible.

Hopefully as she gets older, she will be able to take care of herself better, and not have to have people watch out for her.

She obviously has something wrong with her tastebuds, too. Pickles and strawberry milk? I feel green just hearing about it.
