I thought it was rather crap really. We had a bunch of Anubises taking over the population and turning them into refugees from Live and Let Die. It was all just an excuse for violence. I got excited when the scientist recounted uncovering that temple and when Mel got possessed and she had a vision of some of the memories of the Martians and we saw some cool shots of the civilisation. But they were ultimately a disappointment. The only thing Mel learned from her vision was that they want to kill them. But we already knew that. I was hoping we'd find a little more. How did they find themselves trapped in that temple? If they did it to themselves, they must be very advanced so why do they fight with all the skill of Celts?
And then the bit at the end when they returned to blow up the nuclear power station was stupid. For starters, even if you could destroy the containment shell (with hand grenades LOL), you couldn't make a nuclear reactor explode like a nuclear bomb. You could disperse radionuclides, but you'd probably have to wait a few years for the aliens to get cancer. But the operation was pointless. They had no guarantee that the Anubises would be destroyed. They'd probably be realised from their hosts and go on to seek other hosts. The best thing to do would be to get back to Chryse, examine the situation and try to contain it until you can get more information. But no, Mel decided to do something without any evidence it would work and as a result, more of her people were killed.

I think its anoying how movies make it sound like if you sneeze near a nucler bomb/reacter it will explode.

I liked the non-linear narrative in the first part.
When my sister saw "Desolation" Williams, she said: "A better name would be Teddy Bear Williams, because he looks puffy and cuddly, not like a dangerous criminal!"
:)
Anyway, I was thinking of Glom when they mentioned the nuclear reactor.

Well, it's not the best film John Carpenter's ever made. However, I think the "Anubises", as you call them, are not native to Mars. The ancient Martians fight with all the skill of Celts because their civilisation never developed above that level. Martian survivors realised that the swirly-cloud Whatevers were essentially indestructible, so instead of killing their hosts, they were all sealed up underground; once the hosts die, the swirly-cloud Whatevers were stuck there, harmless. Er, that is until our clever archaeolgist lets 'em out.
Solution to problem - a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Kill the host, suck swirly-cloud Whatever into the containment bag. Bury vac underground. All done!

Not as bad as the idea of fusion reactors exploding with incredible force if you mess with them, I'd say. ("Aliens", I'm looking your way)

I've always said that Ghost Of Mars was the best album I've ever watched.
Because the movie is crap...but the score rules...
Because Anthrax did the score...and Anthrax rules...
