Today is Carl Benz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Benz) 160th birthday. He, together with Gottlieb Daimler, invented the gasoline-motor-powered automobile.
He was born in Karlsruhe.

BTW, Karl Drais (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Drais) was also born in Karlsruhe. He invented the early bicycle.
