View Full Version : For whom the wedding bell tolls

Charles and Camilla are finally to be formally married. When Charles succeeds to the throne, she won't be Queen, but the Princess Consort.

The big question is, should he suceed. I'd prefer William. Charles is old and freaky, while William is young, smart, good looking and the son of Diana, not to mention he doesn't have a dodgy history. He'd fill the role better than Charles.

I thought she would be Princess of Ridiculous Hats.

Saw a picture today. Her hat looked like one of the Queen's after Barry Bond's trainer finished rubbing it.

I raised an eyebrow when I first heard the announcement but after reflection I agree with Maksutov. She won't be Queen, her descendants will have no claim to the throne, and we've all known for years that they were a couple. No big deal.

I doubt it given that she's in her 50s. I believe she already has two children from her first marriage though.

She has a son and a daughter, I think they are both in their 30s. Their positions as heirs to the throne will not change. Should C&C have any children, those children would slot in after Harry, though given her age this seems unlikely. Of course there is the claim that Harry is not Chuck's son, in which, if proved, would mean he would drop out of the list of heirs.

At her age she'd have to engage in more than the "usual manner" in order to have children (some serious invitro). Although many celebrities do this I somehow doubt that this will be the case.

I've heard that the throne may very well go directly to William anyway (ie that Charles will likely abdicate). Any truth to this? Perhaps those on the "other side of the pond" may know.

from what I've read, it's a morganatic marriage, and their children will definitely not be heirs, even should they have any, which I agree is unlikely.

I've always thought that the good people of England should replace the royal family with a troop of dancing bears. While dancing bears aren't much cheeper to keep, they are often quite amusing and you can still put them in fancy carriages and parade them up and down the street whenever you like.
A dancing bear would never do anything embarassing like commiting adultry or wearing a swastika to a party.
Just a thought.

Admittedly Ms. C. P-B does bring a whole new meaning to the term 'clothes horse' but I'm afraid we stopped public displays of animal cruely some years ago and whilst it's fun to poke the guilded cage the thought of the said Ms. C wearing a tutu brings tears to my eyes.

What are the odds, given the interest in this and the resources available and the ease of checking, that this has not already been checked? If I were a betting man, I would bet that someone has already tried this trick. There'd be only one reason that we don't know about it.

I'm not much of a "royal watcher" but I've believed for a long time that Elizabeth II is not going to abdicate or retire or whatever and turn the throne over to Charles if she can help it. Considering all the scandals he has been associated with (Camilla, Diana, Diana's alleged anorexia/bulimia, Diana's violent death, etc.) I suspect that the Queen would prefer to hold out and hope one of her grandsons will present a more respectable successor before she dies. Just an American's opinion here, I know.

Well, saying that the British royal family was useless and should be gotten rid of was considered a political statement. Royal gossip is something else.

You've just got to figure some tabloids have tried this, maybe by collecting skin samples off of his clothing, and run it through DNA analysis. If Harry wasn't Charles's son the story would be huge and the paper that broke the story would rake it in.

(Kind of sad that in this day and age of paparazzi and so forth I'm confident in assuming media have run DNA samples of the princes on the sly. :( )

The whole point of a monarchy is to be apolitical. It's all moot. The Queen will live forever, even if it's Futurama style. It would be cool to see a coronation though.

Given his family history, I doubt William believes in happy endings. His mother died young and other than one grandmother and his uncle in the lilac marriage I can't think of anyone related to him who hasn't been divorced. There should be a special "Windsors" edition of Jerry Springer.

It's in the works!

Meanwhile, we already know whom this particular member of the royals resembles. It's pretty well-documented:

http://img236.exs.cx/img236/7231/princecharlie8is.th.jpg (http://img236.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img236&image=princecharlie8is.jpg)

Even to the point of the person in question writing to Mad to complain that he didn't resemble their poster boy!
