Yesterday, in an effort to save money, my dad dropped our 4 Mbps, $50-per-month cable connection in favor of a 128 Kbps, $25-per-month one from the same ISP.
Yes, that's right... 16 KB/s vs. 500 KB/s. For half the price of our old connection, we now have a connection that is more than 30 times slower.
Sure, it's usable... But I've gotta say, this is almost unbeatable when it comes to ripoff prices!

I use the 128K version at home and like it fine. In order to have cable internet, we've got to have cable tv. A bindle of basic cable and internet service is ~$40 CDN. Basic cable alone is around $22, so its not a bad value.

Yes, it's not bad at all... Not noticably slower than 4 Mbps cable for loading web pages, and good even on sites with a lot of images - I'm quite happy with it.
What annoys me is the pricing... Half the price for a thirtieth the speed? Sure, price scaling is usually like that, but not to such a great extent...
(I don't get cable TV BTW, and I don't want to. Nought but garbage on television these days...)

I'm too spoiled by this time - dropping broadband would be like blinding myself.

Don't worry, it's not that bad. Browsing's still fast, you just can't reinstall your operating system over FTP in 10 minutes. :P
What's interesting is that, with slower connections, you can really see differences in browser speed... :o

I'm on Telewest Blue Yonder cable 1Mb and have my phone with them as well - no TV. Last month's combined bill was £39.37.
Breakdown: Internet £25, Phone £10.00, Calls £3.72, VAT £0.65
I used to be with BT and Ao'Ell, a 56k dial up modem which blocked the phone line, and cost more.

I used to have a dial-up connection. Don't remind me. :P

I bet you'll be surprised to learn that some of us can read Script Kiddie, no matter how much we loath to. Your post could be interpreted as insulting, and your username is definitely insulting.
Read the FAQ and follow it, or go somewhere else.
Edit: in view of this new user's other posts, which are blatant insults targeted at Brady Yoon, I think I'll PM the BA...

Cox Cable offers 4.3Mbps..."capability", for US$50/month, including modem rental. When I checked it with C-NET's Bandwidth Meter (http://reviews.cnet.com/7009-7254_7-0.html?CType=2273&ac=760&ISPID=403056&ISPNAME=&&kb ps=1728.8), it registered 1.7Mbps. They explained this reported lower speed might be due to several 'variables'; different servers' locations and capabilities, my computer's performance, traffic, etc. After reading the above posts, will drop to their bottom tier service for half the price. Thanks :D

According to CNET, my verizon/dsl is running at 1728 kbps - of course, I'm getting hit for $38.89 per month on top of my verizon phone line (can't have one without the other). So....total is around $70 per month even though I almost never use the phone (I use the cell phone).
I used to use a dial-up which was rock-solid stable and that was only $9.95 per month.
