Can't fault people who haven't actually watched the new BSG for naysaying it. This is the first Sci-Fi channel original that they haven't butchered, dumbed downed and just plained ruined.

BSG is pretty good. I love Sci-fi Fridays in general. Its just about the only TV I watch these days.

Damn! Sci-fi channel has an obsolutely HORRIBLE habit of ending their season finale shows on a freakin' cliffhanger. But that was a good episode though :)

Pretty good? Pretty good????

The new Battlestar Galactica is already classic scifi. It's right up there with the very best. Long may it continue.

I have to admit, I'm impressed. I wasn't going to bother with the show, but I finally decided to watch the miniseries right before the full show started.

I got hooked right away.

Since then, I've been looking forward to Friday nights. I haven't done that in a long time (though SG:Atlantis is pretty good). The way they're dealing with personal issues, prophecy, technology and war is masterfully handled.

I'm just upset I have to wait until July for new episodes. #-o

Well, Scifi has a habit of calling everything an "Original" even if they clearly didn't start it. In this case, apparently this is a joint project with "Sky One." But I agree this is an amazing change of pace - I sometimes suspected the folks doing the original BG series were going out of their way to throw in nonsense statements and dumb it down. And even it didn't compare to the wretched Galactica 1980 (I think I may have seen one episode through -and that was when I could stand far worse stuff than I can today). This BG is a real improvement over the original and is holding my interest.

That was a real abomination. Still, if they manage to do their thing with the arrow doohicky, perhaps they'll reach Earth and we can have a re-imagining of Galactica 1980. ;) :)

Just pray the SciFi Network doesn't slash the budget!

My wife and I got hooked on this mid-season. This is now the only show I have to catch every week, basing my fridays around it and taping it when I'm not here. I barely remember the original - caught maybe one episode of it, thought it looked stupid and turned it off.

Big advantage that the new one has is no irritating cute children. :) The original had a moppet called Boffy(?) and a silly robotic dog.

Arrg! I realize now (sunday night at 10:30 in Toronto) that I missed the episode #-o

I'm not even sure if was the season finale or not. We're on a different schedule than the USA. Last Sunday was about that terrorist dude running for Vice President..

Did I miss the finale?

You missed Part 1 of the finale. It's a 2-part episode.

I hate to tell you this but Boxy appears in the mini and in one of the episodes.
No sign of the robot dog though.

There's a lot more Boxy footage on the deleted scenes footage included on the DVD. Thankfully he didn't get past the cutting room floor.

Your point stands, but I have a burning need to be pedantic for a moment:

Boxy had a dagget (or daggit) named Moffet (or Moppet) which you saw for a moment in the original movie. The kid named the surrogate dagget/daggit after his KIA/MIA organic pet.

This Gallactica seems to have been written for adults, and the lack of a child regular reinforces that for me. I always figured the original was aimed at 10 year old kids.

Oh, the tricks memory plays on us!

The boy was called Boxey, and he had a robotic dog ("daggit") called Muffit, sometimes shortened to "Muffy". None of them were muppets, though.

Maybe the FCC should fine the SciFi Channel. :P

Actually, it seems there were plans to use the character of Boxy in the series. However, in the time between the mini-series and the full series, the kid actor grew so much that it wouldn't fit the timeline, so he got written out. :)

What was the arrow all about?

Why was there a coup?

According to legend, it's supposed to somehow lead the way to Earth.

Why was there a coup?
Adama was extremely upset that the President convinced Starbuck to split with the Raider on the basis of a prophecy that he considers to be nothing more than a myth. I think that from his perspective, the President's leadership had become a danger to the mission and to the fleet.
