A visual acuity of 20/20 is considered normal, while 20/400 is considered blind. Palanker and his team say their device could provide acuity of 20/80. “With 20/80 vision you can certainly read large forms and live independently,” Palanker says. “It’s a huge step forward.”

In the rat experiments it says that the eye improved the vision itself by the retina moving closer to the implant. But I wouldn't mind having 20/80 vision after being blind. It also shows that animal testing can be beneficial if it allows 700,000 people (1.5 million world wide) to see and be able to live substantial lives, wouldn't everyone like to be able to see the faces of the people you're talking to.

Granted sometimes I take my glasses off when I feel like making everyone look beautiful, leads to some bad dating choices though :lol:
