There's a review for this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312308655/qid=1112751073/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/103-1667937-0532632?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) in the May 2005 Astronomy.

Has anybody here read it? How is it? (I'll be placing my order tomorrow, once I have my wallet in hand. :D )

Dave Scott is on tour in the UK, reading and signing "Two Sides of the Moon" in April.

He'll be in Truro, Basingstoke, Dundee and Guildford, April 5th, 7th, 11th and 12th
Some data is here (http://www.ottakars.co.uk/Internet/shopevents/default.jsp?SortBy=CelebritySort&EventType=Adult&S tartPoint=61).

The book was okay for me, though I can imagine it is a matter of taste. Not very much new for me about Dave Scott's side, but as I'm not very used to soviet space history, Leonov's accounts were very interesting to read.

Well, I used to live in Petersfield, and work in Basingstoke, so I can talk with a wee bit authority on this. And yes Guildford is quite a bit nicer than the other towns mentioned, but all I'll say is "The Drink"..... :D :D :D

Wow. Do you damn with faint praise professionally, or are you just a highly skilled amateur?

"Guildford: Not as wretched as Basingstoke."

I'm a time served engineer. I'm paid good money to be bitter and twisted on a daily basis. Subject no object.... :D

I thought it was OK. The material from Scott comprised about 2/3 of the book, and Leonov's material about 1/3. I didn't feel they tied together that well, and got the impression that this was making the best of two stories neither of which would in themselves fill a book.

There were few big surprises in either story.

A book I'm reading at the moment and enjoying a lot more is
Moondust, by Andrew Smith (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0747563683/026-6239467-7281213). Smith set out to track down and talk to all of the remaining 9 moonwalkers, and his book is a combination of travelogue, space history, and a great nostalgia trip through the whole of the late sixties context of Apollo.

Ooh. Yeah, that does look decent. (Came out two days ago? Neat!) I'll have to wait a bit for it to show up at my preferred book store, but I will pick this up at first opportunity. :)
