I'm stuck, left with the following unused items: an empty CD box, a magic box with ring, a number code and an unused key and cassette tape... 8-[

I got the box, ring, two keys, cassette tape, cd box, cable for cd player, paper from drawer... and a headache! I'm going to bed, try again tomorrow! :o

How?

You don't want me to spoil it, do you?

All right:

Find the ring in the bowl. Play with the curtain until something falls out and pick it up. Get the metal rod from behind the bed. Put them onto the red box (I think you can find it under the dresser). I'll let you go from there.

This is strange. I can't play this game on my home computer, or any other games that have that .php file extension on them. I just get a box with a little red x on a corner. I wonder why?

Do you have the most recent version of Flash?

cyswxman

Yes, I do. I just had it disabled. #-o #-o

I still can't yet figure it out. The only thing I find behind the bed is a battery.

Anyone try the blue or the green room?

In the green room, I've collected everything, and created a shrine on the bookshelf with the CD, CDbox and beer can, but it says that it is not yet complete. Oddly, I tried again later and can no longer find either the key or the lighter. grrrrr

In the blue room, I've found four items very quickly, and sent the note "help me" through the chute, but it seems I'm missing at least one item.

I can't seem to get behind the bed. I'm missing only one item

There are three items relating to the bed. There's a key under the pillow, a battery between the mattress and the wall (click on the lower left corner of the blank wall, I think, to see it), and a metal rod between the mattress and headboard (raise the pillow first).

I'm having trouble with the...

...safe. I've found four numbers by following the url, but it's not the combination verbatim. I'm proceeding under the assumption that it's a number rearranging thing. (I hate those. Carpal tunnel worthy.)

The "ipod commercial" was kinda neat though.

[Edit: Just completed it. There was some kind of bug where the code wasn't accepted, so I just refreshed and redid the game quickly, and it worked. Go fig.]

are you sure that you wrote the numbers correctly? It worked for me. Hint: make sure that you've found all of the items and that you've used all of the items

I haven't mastered any of those yet, but here's another couple of Flash adventure games for those who have: http://www.amanitadesign.com/. Look under Flash Games > Samorost and Quest for the Rest. They're significantly easier than that Crimson Room, I think...

OK, so I found the safe and went to the yellow chamber page, but the numbers change each time, and don't open the safe. how do I get it open?

You may have to refresh the game, then run through it again. It won't take long, but it worked for me.

By that list, you're still missing another part of the shrine. And don't forget, it's not beer if it's not cold.

People who are feeling a bit cocky after escaping from those rooms can humble themselves with Hapland and Hapland 2. (http://www.foon.co.uk/farcade/) Parental Advisory: contains random acts of bloody violence against stickmen.

Solutions can be found here (http://www.milkandcookies.com/links/25749/details/) and here (http://www.milkandcookies.com/article/2863/), but don't look until you've been trying for a very long time - the solutions are logical, especially for Hapland 2.

Nah, tried it half a dozen times. Refreshed the yellow room a few times, tried loading that before starting the game, before putting the bits in the box, before watching the projector and after. Bored now.

Yep, yep, and yep.
Spoiler:

In the green room, you need to build a shrine. Make sure to build it out of what the person likes. And make sure that they can get to it.

The green room is particularly annoying. The first time I think I got all of the objects (area on right was filled), but couldn't fill the shrine. (I had the beer, the filled CD case and the incense, including one lit in the container.)

Since that time, I've re-tried multiple times again and can no longer find the key. Also, the waste basket sometimes will lift and sometimes won't. I've now learned that the picture frame has to go into the shrine before the CD case.

So without giving anything else away,
a) where's the key
b) how can you get the wastebasket to consistently raise
c) do I need anything besides the filled CD case (w/o the key, I can't get the CD), the incense, cold beer and the picture frame* (I realize there are three permutations with the picture frame).

The Supreme Canuck
23-May-2005, 09:57 PM
You don't need the picture frame at all.

Moose
23-May-2005, 10:25 PM
You have to click on the skeleton's hand a bunch of times to get the key to fall. To get the wastebasket to lift, you first have to examine a bunch of your items. I can't remember which one specifically, but if you examine them all, you'll be able to lift the waste basket. The shrine needs "so chilly" beer, lit incense, the filled CD case, and ring the bell. You'll know when you've got everything.

Lycus
23-May-2005, 10:28 PM
To specify what Moose described:
You need to examine the hair that you found in the trash in order to raise the trash bin.

And about the picture frame:
It actually hinders you when you place it in the shrine. Don't use it, it's just a red herring.

There is a The Doors walkthrough here (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9247). Scroll down until you see a big red block, and roll your mouse over it to reveal it (why can't we do that?). I needed a hint or two for The Doors, with no guilt whatsoever - I wouldn't have guessed them until the end of eternity. IMHO, it is a badly made game in the sense that there are no clues as to what is expected of you at any point. You can only find things by being lucky and clicking in the right place, for instance, with little distinction between openable and unopenable objects. The ending has a [slightly] hilarious spelling mistake that makes it all worthwhile, though.

If you want to see this style of game done properly, stump up a little money for Myst, or one of its sequels. You aren't just paying for fancy graphics - the designers have taken great care to make the puzzles logical. If you look at a Myst hint, you think to yourself, "If only I'd thought about that a bit longer, or been a bit cleverer, I'd have got it." No such thoughts for The Doors - you would think, "Well how was I supposed to find that?".

Credit where credit's due: that upside-down room did freak me out a bit, and I did feel driven to finish it.

The Supreme Canuck

I picked up the first three Myst games on DVD new for about 40 bucks Canadian. I think I got it from the Ubisoft store, but it might have been from somewhere else.

Personally, I hate asking for hints for myself. I'd rather let the puzzle sit forever unsolved.

pghnative
24-May-2005, 12:44 AM
Normally I'd agree, but these puzzles are not exactly logical --- the only way to solve them is through random trial and error.

For instance, in the green room, the only way to make one object rise (to reveal another important object) is to closely examine another object first. That's silly, in my mind. Similarly, an object located up high is only visible after certain other things are looked at. And why exactly would you burn a set of random objects to reveal something on a paper --- after all, the paper should burn!

So it becomes a test of random purmutations and time, not of thinking --- So I'd rather try for a little while, then get a few hints to finish it off for the fun of finishing it off.
