Perhaps instead of raising the price we should make them very cheap and let natural selection do its worst.
On second thought, the catastrophic effects generally come well after the breeding years. Too bad.

Ditto! I couldn't give a volant coitus if they cost $10,000 a puff.
Germany's going to raise the tabacco tax again and forbid all advertising for cigarettes. Yippeee. Maybe I'll be able to breath when I go out for a beer. =D>

Just raise it high enough and you'll have a new generation of backyard farms and urban farmers.
"What'cha growin' Earl?"

"Ah, well I got to gettin back to my spread anyhow. Which way was the elevator agin? I got to go unload my new John Deer nano-tractor."

My wife smokes. I don't, and I try my best to avoid 2nd-hand smoke.
One of our cats, who adores my wife tremendously will absolutely not have naything to do with her when she is smoking, but the second she puts out her cigarette, the cat jumps up on her lap. That's a smart cat IMHO.
Price: just under US$40.00 per carton of 10 packs

Here in Brazil, one pack of cigarettes (20 units) is US$0.80, in average.

Not being a smoker I can't tell you how much a packet of cigarettes goes for in Australia, but I can tell you that there is a lot of duty and tax payable on them! When I'm working with Customs we generally charge a passenger around AU$50 in duty and tax when they bring in excess cigarettes. That's around US$39, or £20 Sterling.

Here is the United States, cigarettes cost about $157,000,000,000 in annual health-related economic losses. Then there are the approximately 440,000 premature deaths every year and other effects. (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5114a2.htm)
The point where I gave up smoking was 12,000 feet above sea level on a mountain in Colorado. (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=444703#444703) The recently-acquired habit had my lungs burning up. The coffin nail I smoked prior to that climb was the last one ever. That was 37 years ago.

Don't take my word for it. Click on the first link and read the Center for Disease Control report.

I don't smoke, so I don't know how much cigarettes cost.
However - I live in the UK, where almost everything costs more than it does anywhere else in the world (except booze in Scandanavian countries - ouch!) so I'm going to assume that cigarettes are no different and cost a lot.

They have gone up over the last few years in an attempt to wean people off them. All that happens is folks nip over to France and buy them in the cheap warehouses in Calais.

I was paying about US $33 per carton (200 units/10 packs) up until I quit (4 months ago tomorrow) after smoking for 33 years.
I think the prices are around $8-9CAD here in Ontario, but I haven't bought cigarettes by the pack in a while now. There are a number of Indian made brands that are grown on reserves, and are taxed less than the big brands. They usually sell for around $6-7 a pack, but can only be bought on the reserves as well. They've become pretty popular in this city, since the nearest reserve is just over a bridge.
I've resorted to buying pouches of tobacco, and rolling them myself. For those who aren't aware, cigarettes are sold in packs of 25 in Canada, with 8 packs (200 cigarettes) in a carton.

I don't know--my dad smoked and died of a heart attack at age 44, when I was 6--but I can tell you that Washington residents tend to raise their cigarette taxes pretty regularly. we voted a new increase in not long ago, the proceeds to pay for health care for smoking-related diseases. this strikes me as eminently sensible on the part of whoever wrote the initiative.

Sorry. I have no idea. I don't smoke. I try to talk people out of killing themselves.
Whatever the price is here in Southern CA, it's not high enough. I'd like them to triple the price. Minimum. Nationwide.

About $7-8 for a packet of 20s, about $9-11 for a packet of 25s, about $10-12 for a packet of 30s, and about $15-17 for a packet of 50s.
