ACME is great! Always has been.

Just a short while ago I used their iron pellets as a substitute for colloidal silver. (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=472901#472901) Now, how can you beat that? And what a price they gave me, I should be so lucky!

Beep, beep!

Hmmmm..... I wonder who made Marvin The Martian's Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. Now that would be useful.

LOL, IIRC their anvils are of danger to coyotes, ducks (especially if the "anvil chorus" is playing) and cats to name a few animals. There is also the case of legal action against Acme (http://www.mdfsnet.f9.co.uk/Docs/Humour/Animals/Coyote).

That is so funny, it must be illegal! The attorneys for the "injured" have reached either the zenith or nadir (Ralph?) of jurisprudence. Or maybe both at once, given the inherent acceleration characteristics of ACME products... 8)

OK, I see.

So you're using that ACME Atom Re-arranger to transmute your colloidal silver into colonic slivers? Ah, it all makes sense now.

BTW, it's best to buy those in quantities of at least two or more. That way, you don't have to have a confrontation with The Lone Arranger! 8)

Excellent link. I need the Jet Propelled Pogo Stick to get over potholes and traffic jams. Will order today!

Somebody could use this:

...So you're using that ACME Atom Re-arranger to transmute your colloidal silver into colonic slivers?...No, no---first I separate the atoms, then pluck a single electron from each atom's orbit in a distilled water medium. Imagine the resultant positively-charged ions (one tablespoon containig more ions than the number of cells in one's body) as heat-seeking missiles relentlessly pursuing its prey to destruction, if you will. Coffee, BTW, is the preferred colonic. The .999 fine silver comes from The Loan Arranger's mine---I'm his best customer! :D

What is exactly the origin of this Warner Brother cartoon idea of inventing a company name for crazy products?

By the way there is a real ACME company http://www.acme.com/

I've heard of a few explanations: 1) Early in the century, Sears-Roebuck carried some Acme products (the anvil being one) and WB took the name from there. (2) ACME is an acronym, A Company that Manufactures Everything (3) There was an artists work table, that was widely used in the industry, naturally it was made by Acme.

One definiton from Dictionary.com : The highest point, as of achievement or development: reached the acme of her career.

That's why I believe that they used ACME, Wille E. Coyote uses only the best.

I happen to have my copy of Chuck Amuck right here beside me (because I never put it away after using it to answer someone else's question a while back). according to Chuck Jones himself,

The Acme Corporation stemmed from games the Jones tads played in their juvenile dotage. My sister Dorothy fell in love with the title Acme, finding that it was adopted by many struggling and embryonic companies because it put them close to the top of their chosen services in the Yellow Pages. Today, of course, it is commonplace to see AAAAA Cleaners and Dyers and AAABBBCCCDDD Drugs, which sounds like a Porky Pig establishment. But in those simple days such verbal chicanery was unheard of--Acme was a word; it was that simple.

So, many years later, it seemed logical to use Acme in our films, from Acme Dancing Academy for Infant Ducks to the Acme Corporation we put on our door when Chuck Jones, Inc., lived on the twelfth floor at Sunset and Vine, followed by our slogan: "We build fine Acmes."

this appears on page 223 of my copy. if you can't trust Chuck Jones on the subject (given that he created both Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner), who can you trust?

I though ACME was just in Bugs Bunny.

When I was a kid I used to confuse ACME with Acomb, a small town near Hexham, England where my Gran came from.

I went there last summer.

Wile E. Coyote, the Roadrunner, and Bugs Bunny are all Warner Brothers cartoons, created by the Warner Brothers studios. the Acme products were initially used in Roadrunner cartoons, but since the animators knew a good gag when they saw one, it crept into the lot.
