I'm having problems with my Windows Media Player. I just downloaded the new version, wmp 10, but then an error message shows up when i try to play the dvd. it says "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. Open Display in Control Panel, and then lower your screen resolution and color quality settings. To view the DVD Troubleshooter, click More Information."

Then it sends me to a page with dvd decoders, and you have to pay for them. My computer originally played DVD's with no problem. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Thanks.

I've never tried watching DVD's on WMP version 10, but it has been acting strange since since I downloaded it. I can't play some .wmv files on mine unless I save them first.

I use the free version of Intervideo WinDVD (http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVD_Profile.jsp) which I haven't had a problem with and much prefer over WMP.

Is Windows Media Player what you used to view DVDs before you upgraded? If not, then I expect WMP just associated itself to DVDs in place of what ever you used before. If this is the case, manually run what ever software you used for DVDs previously. It may detect the changed association by itself and ask you if you'd like to repair the association.

If WMP is what you used previously, then it soind like it may just be hosed. Try rolling back to version 9.

I had a whole host of problems after i installed WMP10, all formats playing in monochrome and my other media players started acting up too, just as Sky said.

I can't understand why though, it's entirely unlike Microsoft to release buggy software.

I un-installed it and reverted to WMP9, problem solved.
