Does anyone know how to get Word to STOP autofomatting EVERYTHING? I'm doing a lesson plan and I need to paste the applicible parts of the State Core Cirriculum from the internet into the document. The state core is written up as a numbered and alphebetized list and when I try to ommit the non-applicable parts of the core from the lesson plan, it automatically renumbers or reletters everything! I just want to do all of my lists manually, short of retyping the entire stupid state core cirriculum (which is pages and pages and pages long.) Yes, I went to autoformat and unchecked all the things I thought would apply but it's still doing it. JUST TURN IT OFF!

All I want here is a typewriter that has cut and paste. Is that so much to ask? All this auto-crap is just getting in the way. :P

There should be a little blue box at the bottom right hand corner of the text that you paste. It has a dropdown menu. Click on it. Pick whichever option you want.

In Word XP, at least. What version do you have?

In Word 2002:

Format > AutoFormat > Options button > AutoFormat tab (uncheck what torques you off)

Format > AutoFormat > Options button > AutoFormat As You Type tab (uncheck etc etc)

Tools > AutoCorrect options > gets you to the AutoFormat/Autoformat As You Type tabs

Other versions of Word should be similar.

Thanks Canuck! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!! You saved me a ton of extra work. (thank you too Charlie, even though I already tried your way and it doesn't work. Pasted text keeps its original format even if the document it is pasted into has different settings.)

You know, in it's haste to do all our thinking for us it can be a very frustrating program to use.
