The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) is having its annual convention called The Amaz!ng Meeting 4 (TAM4), in Las Vegas on January 26-29. The conference generally focuses on skepticism in general but there are some noted science-related speakers such as the BA (who will also be the MC - he did a good job last year), NASA astronomer Carolyn Porco, and Nobel Laurate Murray Gell-Mann. Even the guys from Mythbusters will be there!
Here is the official website for the event: www.tam4.com

I attended TAM3 last January and had a great time. I hope to attend this year as well, provided business doesn't side-track me I should be there. Hopefully more of you will be there too, it's well worth it.

Agh, I _soooo_ want to go, but the cheapest flight I could find starts at $600 bucks (CDN), after having driven a third of the way to Las Vegas from where I am. And that doesn't even cover accomodations, etc.
Maybe if I win the lottery or something. (Which would require me to actually play, I suppose. It would be an ironic way to raise money for Vegas, though.)

The Mythbusters and Carolyn Porco?? WOW that really is tempting. I just don't think I can justify spending the amount of money I'd have to to "do it up right".
...and the truth is that the real reason I'd be going is to see the BA...the rest would be gravy.
...and again, truthfully, I can go and see the BA "basically" for free...fact is I'll be seeing him next month when he gives his "Moon Hoax" talk at Mt. Diablo. :)

sigh. I can't afford to go to Goodwill, let alone Vegas. much as I'd love to see Phil, and much as I'd love to meet the guys from MythBusters . . . I couldn't afford to go to my own grandmother's funeral or my own mother's 60th birthday. I'd have a really hard time justifying borrowing the money, even if I knew anyone who had it.

Flying to Vega$ is usually cheap-- they want you there, very much. :o But TAMIV is a bit pricey. It costs a bit to get the accommodations and guests. I have always had a blast when I go.
For those who need further convincing, read my travelogue from TAM III (http://www.badastronomy.com/fun/travelogs/amazingmeeting2005.html).

Being a teacher, I get *tons* of vacation...BUT...can only take it when I get it. NOT at the end of January, unfortunately

Just got my flyer for TAM 4. For about 5 minutes, I couldn't figure out how they got my mailing address...then it hit me...
I ordered the DVD of the BA and Randi from TAM 1, so I was on their mailing list...DOH!!

It took me a while to get my schedule sorted out but I will be there! I can't wait, last year's convention was a lot of fun. A friend of mine might come along as well.
