Interesting.
This story was adapted for this movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082247/combined), which I've seen (though never from the beginning) several times. I never knew that this movie was based on a real story.
An enjoyable movie if you like that sort of thing. It made Johnson out to be a heroic and sympathetic figure.

I notice that May (Wop) was hired to help track him down, for those of you that don't know, That was the man who shot down the Red Baron, provided that Canada only had one W.R. May that was also a pilot, and also provided that you don't beleive those lying French and Ausies who claim to have fired the killing shot [-X :P .
A truly amazing story, I must admit that the mad trapper seems to have had very good luck, and lots of cunning, I certainly couldn't do what he did, I couldn't have even survived the dynamite attack.

I thought it was Billy Bishop who shot down the Red Baron. Twice.

An Australian machine gun was firing at the Red Baron from the ground while Canadian pilot Roy Brown was following him and also firing. Both countries claim the kill.
The Red Baron was shot down twice. I believe that the second time was the fatal one.

Nope, Billy did many things, including winning a dogfight with the Red Baron, but he never shot him down, just 'winged' him.

Huh. Thanks a bunch. Most of my information on Canadian involvement in WWI comes from a very bad grade ten history class. I actually had to call the teacher on reporting more Canadians died in the war than participated.
