Though I did find one mention of him here, I did not know this guy until I heard him on the radio this evening - well, this morning I suppose considering the hour - talking about all sorts of astronomical things. He was on a general call in show and fielded all manner of questions ranging from history to the how we do it. Though he was a guest here, apparently he also has a regular radio presentation. Though I am a DXer and scan the bands often, I have never encountered his show.

I found him very interesting and engaging, fun to listen to. He was while at it promoting the US release of his Stargazer, a book about the history of the telescope.

If his performance on this show was any indication, I should enjoy his books.

Is he that aussie guy? I got a feeling he did a talk at our astrofest a few years back. :)

Fred's a lovely chap and despite the onerous duties of being the Director in Charge of the AAT, he works tirelessly to promote astronomy to the general public through radio, television & print.
