If you do you are showing your age
However, the Keystone cops are who I thought of when I read this (http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-13410697,00.html)

Hey, I resemble that remark!
Keystone Cops movies were were incredibly funny slaptick, more cartoon than real life. Golden memories of the B&W silent era. Bob Monkhouse did a series of television shows in the UK some time back called Mad Movies which featured a lot of silent films from private collections (including his own) and the gang at Suffolk County Police Department were often featured.

Ah, but you miss the very subtle strategy here.
The cops pull out the water cannons, but don't use them. Instead, they appear to panic, drop the cannons, and retreat. The rioters - in a fit of jubilation - pick up the cannons to use on the cops. And... riot over.

...Another ill-fated project saw scientists attempt to train foxes to detect corpses, using the animals' highly-developed sense of smell...
??? And regular dogs are no good because...?

There may be a valid reason for this.
Dogs in general can become very attached to people in general. Rescue dogs have been known to get very apprehensive and neurotic if they find several corpses in succession, but no live person. Their handlers have to stage finding a live one to relieve the pressure and allow the dogs to keep searching.
Maybe foxes just don't give a flip.

I doubt that there are posters on the BABB that experienced first-runs of the Keystone Kops comedies. Meanwhile their antics, through modern media, are available to persons of all ages.
BTW, what is wrong with showing one's age? Since when is perpetual youth and ignorance the standard? Even when I was young, "You're dating yourself." always struck me as a silly, clichéd expression. Unless, of course, you were so unfortunate that you couldn't get any dates except one. :)
Mack Sennett and the Kops were the training ground for many comic actors. They provided the start for the greatest comic genius of all time: Buster Keaton. =D>

50 years ago I could watch Keystone COps offered as regular entertainment, just like a Seinfeld rerun today. I recall liking the Tons of FUn a lot more than the STooges. I liked Buster Keaton. But there were a lot of the older things on TV in the 50s. A 1937 movie in 1952 was no older than a 1990 movie is today. I may not have seen them at date of release, but it was a different thing than today when we only see them as a nostalgia piece.
Who can tire of watching a cop car drive behind a telephone pole to hide?
