A good number of rense.com woowoos post in the poilitics section of a mixed martial arts forum I go to. CT's rule in the place, sadly. But some people in there also debate them.
Anyway, they brought up a topic we had discussed before, the so-called "doomsday bomb" of Leo Szilard. They presented this article:

http://www.rense.com/general40/dooms.htm

They didn't even pay attention to the first response of the article. So, since I was around at the moment, I explained to them that the amount needed would be too big and impractical. Also, when Leo Szilard mentioned that, it was the 1950. At the momemt, the a-bombs were huge and weighed in the tons. Warheads had not been planned, so it is understandable that he would think of a huge bomb. But a current gravity bomb or warhead alone could not the damage described in the article. it would take too many of them.
Some guys were relieved and asked me where I got the info. I talked to them about the BABB. We have real scientific discussions not like Rense.com or GLP.
If I was boring you, here comes the 'funny" part. One of the woowoos claimed that at least half the arsenals of the US and Russia are salted with cobalt 59. He first said they were very likely made of cobalt completely. I answered by telling him that the warheads have as an objective to take out cities and strategic objectives. If they were all cobalt, the explosions wouldn't be powerful, as uranium is necessary. The nuclear nations are interested in the amount of kilotons and megatons as they want powerful nukes, rather than to kill everyone for sure. He then claimed that they were at least salted with it. When I asked for evidence, he claimed to have a relative in the military who knows of this. Yeah, right
He kept screaming conspiracy so a logical argument couldn't continue. Although what he said was technically possible (meaning to salt nukes), people did not trust him as they did not believe his claims without evidence. Surely, the government has cobalt 59 to spare to salt half their warheads and gravity bombs with two hundred pounds of cobalt 59, just to make sure they ruin the land.
Tha's why the US did not prepare supplies in the event of a fight in a nuclear war  . I am glad the BABB got some credit.

Did anybody ever hear a conspiracy as ludicrous as this?

So, the so called "doomsday bomb" of Leo Szilard was described on a time when A-bombs were huge and weighed tons. That would explain why he talked of one. Did anyone hear of such a ludicrous conspiracy as half the warheads of nuclear powers being salted with cobalt 59? He didn't consider also how much of the cobalt 60 would be local and how much would spread globally.

I hope this thread didn't seem pointless.

I got no responses  . Well, I guess nobody ever heard of such a ludicrous conspiracy.

Great googly-moogly, you mean that my custom of browsing Indymedia sites for entertaining lunacy isn't unique?

If you want the choicest example of Indymedia as a sort of mini-GLP, I recommend the Portland IMC (http://portland.indymedia.org).

Share and Enjoy!
