Not just beautiful, they are stunning, wish I lived nearer to Northern Lights. Truly amazing. I saw some movie clips some time ago, are they really changing fast? At what latitude is you observatory?

Dave, those are fabulous pictures. I envy you. My chances of seeing an aurora are slim to none. Thanks!

The Astronomical Society of Harrisburg's Naylor Observatory is located at 40.1469 North, 76.8989 West. Aurorae are comparitively rare at this latitude.
All the auroral displays that I've seen have had their own unique characteristics. Patches, curtains, rays, and coronae can come and go with suprisingly rapidity.

Thanks Dave, it's amazing that where I live in the Netherlands at appr. 52 North there are hardly any aurorae visible. Of course you'd need a rural viewing spot, but it seems that aurorae are not centered on the North pole, or the magnetic North pole is in a very different spot from the one we use to determine latitude.
Cheers.
