I have noticed when washing a large margarine tub in soapy water,if i add some soapy water then seal it .When i shake it up it swells, but when i try to open the lid it sucks in to almost a seal.Does anyone know what causes this. Thanks for listening.

This is in hot water, yeah?

Could be a chemical reaction?

Unfortunately modern science fails to explain events like this. This is what is so great about the electric universe theory! I think plasma was most likely involved, turning the margarine container into a superconductor. This would accurately explain your difficulty in opening it.

and there is the associated mystery of the wormhole that appears in the washing machine....devouring 1 sock from every pair...the odd sock syndrome  maybe something to do with the plasma field in the spin cycle.

But I think the margarine container has been thermally expanded and the lid less so. Someone please correct me if am wrong.

Excellent point Damien! I think you're on to something. It all makes sense. The electric universe is indeed responsible for missing socks!

This is the sort of thing scientists get grants of thousands of £ to research... like why a biscuit always drops into your tea when you dunk it... I kid you not, that was paid for by a grant...

Ahhh!
Why do my reading specs get fogged up when I sip my tea?

Because Chook, when you breathe out all that hot air, it starts condensing on your glasses. :P Oh, you are drinking tea? :D

i wonder if we could calibrate the fogged up glasses, the missing sock and the superconducting margarine container with the electric universe??? are they connected...

the truth is out there somewhere

Funny you should mention that Dips -I just read an article in New Scientist that said that researchers got down and dirty and determined that penguins expel their waste at almost 60kPa!  However, although funded, the use of this research has never been determined.  So research into the properties of margarine lids and odd socks could well be a winner!
