Since I built my own telescope I am planning on building a CCD camera as well does anyone know of a supplier for CCD sensors... sold in ones or two not hundreds or thousands of chips.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

That's a pretty ambitious project you've got going there! I've never heard of anyone building their own digital camera. Do you know of any others who have done this?

Actually among some of the various CCD camera projects that I found on the internet I also had a copy of the CCD Camera Cookbook.

The only problem is the camera in the book uses a TC211 chip which is no longer available and i am having trouble locating somewhere to purchase a CCD chip. I would like one of the sony chips but the only supplier I have found so far sells them in minimum quantities of 100. I really don't need a hundred cameras my photography is not that good. :P

Interesting stuff. It looks very time consuming not to mention high risk. I spose if you ordered 100 chips you'd have a few spares if something went wrong. :) Does this work out cheaper than buying a camera on ebay?

Actually one of the suppliers that I buy electronic parts from has access to them and can get me just one instead of 100. So I got it covered. Not the sony chips that I wanted but will work for my first try at this anyway.

The CCD chips in a web cam are cheap - not nearly the quality I was looking for. But I had considered that as an alternative.
